On the 25th of August, seven students from Wyreema State School, Layla, Brianna, Charlee, Ruby-Rose, Brandy, Kaitlin and Tia, competed in the Toowoomba regional Opti-MINDS competition, along with 24 other schools and 60 teams from the region. The team, aptly named, “The Wyreema Wisdom Wizards”, selected a challenge requiring them to plan an inaugural Extreme Wisdom event. This dramatized event needed to incorporate three challenges to test three contestants against three key elements of wisdom, with one contestant being crowned the “Being of Supreme, Extreme Wisdom”. After 6 weeks of preparation and rehearsals during their lunch breaks and after school, the students presented their challenge to a panel of three judges, friends and family. The students also participated in an unseen 10-minute spontaneous challenge whereby they were judged on teamwork and the creativity of their response. Throughout the 6 weeks, the team demonstrated outstanding teamwork, resilience and commitment to the challenge… and all the hard work paid off. At the end of the day, the team was awarded “The Spirit of Opti-MINDS”, an award that acknowledges and celebrates excellence, collaboration, integrity, compassion, diversity and being the very best you can.
