2024 5/6 Columboola Camp

During Week 6 students from Year 5/6 attended their annual school camp. This year we were lucky enough to make the trip out to Columboola Outdoor Environmental Education Centre. A beautiful location with great facilities, delicious food and wide open spaces perfect for our afternoon football games. When we arrived we were greeted by the staff and shown to where our tents would be located. We were assigned our tent allocations so carried all our gear down to the camping area. We split off into two groups and headed straight into low ropes and GPS games. Afternoon tea came around and we swapped over activities.

Our down time was spent playing touch football, Jenga, handball, massive connect 4 and chatting with mates. After dinner on night one we were treated to learning a good old fashioned bush dance. While one group was dancing their hearts out the other group went off with Mrs Duncan to catch up on camping stories around the campfire.  At the end of the night we all sat quietly around the campfire listening to our surroundings and preparing for the next day. Lights were out early as it was an early wake up on Thursday.

Thursday was a very eventful day with various activities like high ropes, reptiles, orienteering, Archery, First Nations paintings & gearing up for our massive GPS hunt coming on Friday morning. Thursday night after dinner we were a little tired so we decided to have an outside movie night and early bed. Lights were out early again, as two big days had started to catch up with everyone.

It was up again early Friday, cleaning tents and packing up ready for home. After breakfast we split again and Mrs Duncan's crew headed off to do their GPS hunt through the bushland while Miss Doyle's students stayed behind to try their hand at catching yabbies on a string! Meanwhile Mrs Duncan's groups were off exploring the nearby bushland. I have it on good authority that some groups may have had to cross many creeks several times! What a blast.  We swapped over after morning tea for Miss Doyle's crew to try their hand at the GPS hunt and Mrs Duncan's to try to wait patiently for a yabby. This proved to be a lot harder than some thought.

We had a small bite to eat for lunch then hopped onto the bus to head for home, tired but happy. What an amazing few days.
