2021 Dreamtime Games

On Monday, the amazing Dusty from Dreamtime Games visited Wyreema State School to start NAIDOC celebrations.  This year the students engaged in traditional Aboriginal games and were educated in the culture and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.  The games students played were:

  • Thapumpan (a running game from NQ where players were trying to avoid getting tagged by a shark)
  • Kungirruna (a running and stepping game from SA where the kids leapt between marker cones)
  • Chiba (a mock warfare game from North QLD where kids threw soft squishy foam spears over the half way line of the field to try and have the least amount of spears in their half at the end of the game)
  • Tambil Tambil (a spear throwing and dodging game from SEQ where kids ran past a bunch of spear throwers armed with soft squishy spears who are trying to hit them in the legs)
  • Kalkadoon Kee’an (a throwing game from the Mt Isa area where the kids are trying to throw a foxtail into a target area)

All year levels participated in the traditional games and had a fantastic time.
